WindSCORE Project Kick-Off in Bremen on 4th March 2026

On March 4, 2026, the WindSCORE kick-off meeting was hosted by project coordinator Fraunhofer IWES in Bremen. The event marked the beginning of an exciting three-year journey in wind energy research and development.

WindSCORE aims to develop a scientific-based 360° evaluation framework and toolbox for offshore wind farm projects. This groundbreaking system will provide a reliable foundation for assessing risks and opportunities in future projects and locations, including particular emphasis on environmental impact and sustainability.

Marcel Wiggert, the project coordinator, opened the meeting with a comprehensive overview of WindSCORE’s objectives and scope. Following this, each Work Package (WP) leader presented their specific goals and tasks for the upcoming three years, setting the stage for collaborative efforts across the consortium.

The project’s main objective is to create value-adding and sustainability-oriented criteria in the form of metrics and guidelines. This approach aims to promote social acceptance of offshore wind and support stakeholders in making evidence-based decisions across the full value chain.

The meeting fostered open discussions, allowing consortium members to exchange valuable insights and contribute to the planning of the project’s next steps. This collaborative approach ensures a strong foundation for the project’s future success.

A highlight of the event was a presentation by Kristin Blasche from Ørsted, a member of the project advisory board, who introduced Ørsted’s biodiversity measurement framework to the consortium. This presentation provided valuable industry perspective and underscored the project’s commitment to sustainable practices.

The kick-off meeting also saw virtual participation from external industry partners, including Lars Kindler (Gleiss Lutz), Peter Leicht (Kapellmann), Tobias Lehnert (Dillinger) and Artjom Goryaev (TenneT), further emphasizing the project’s strong ties with industry stakeholders.

WindSCORE is poised to lay the foundation for the further expansion of offshore wind energy and contribute significantly to a climate-friendly electricity supply. The project team is now ready to embark on this crucial work, aiming to make substantial contributions to the sustainable development of the offshore wind energy sector.
